Dr. McDougall Mobile Cookbook App Reviews

It is really great to be able to access McDougall recipes this way...I can quickly lookup ingredients I need while at the store on my iPhone. Hopefully, in the future this will be formatted as an iPad app, too, and even more functionality will be added. I feel very lucky to have gotten this when it first came out for free, but Id have gladly paid for it. After all, how much value can I put on my health?!

I really like this app as Ive just started eating this way. I LOVE the taco casserole, hummus quesadilla, and so much more. I would love to see pictures of all the recipes and nutritional info. Id also like to search by meal type. The ingredient search is really great though!

As many others have noted this app does not seem to actually display 875 recipes...I counted about 170 on mine. For $5 I expect all the recipes!!

Pretty good app! Love the ingredient search feature, and I love the recipes. But there are not 800 recipes. Unless the "browse recipes" feature is broken? Browsing only shows around 150 or so. Will there be an update? ****UPDATE***** I wrote to the company. There are over 800 recipes. The browse feature is just not working correctly. Hopefully an update soon. But in good news, if you search by ingredient you should get many more recipes than are listed when you hit the "browse recipes" option.

...but like others, not seeing the "over 800 recipes" in the app (more like 100) and Im not seeing "thousands of McDougall recipes at your fingertips". Im still a bit disappointed about that.

I love this app, how easy and quick it is. That said, it really needs a table of contents as the "browse" button only shows a small number of the recipes available. Like a previous commenter said, if you type in an ingredient you will get many more recipes, but often I like to just look around to find something.

Lots of recipes, easy to search or browse. However, this app is not formatted for iPhone 5, hope it gets updated!!!

Im new to eating vegan so this is just what I needed! Easy to plug in ingredients and find recipes. Ive paid much more for cookbooks that are nowhere near as functional. Love it and recommend it.

This app is outdated. The recipes look good. But, the application isnt optimized for new iOS devices.

Only 131 of the recipes show up in browse mode. You have to have a specific ingredient in mind to search for, if you actually want to see some more recipes. The search by ingredient functionality is very handy, but that should have been an after-thought. Certainly the ability to see and browse through ALL recipes, just as you would when paging through a cookbook, should be a standard feature. That being said, how will you ever get to see all 800+ promised recipes? You wont. Its a shame, because the 131 that I am able to see look pretty promising. The resolution is very low, so the text is not clear on an iPad.

I would love to be able to have an index by meal type rather than just an ingredient. The content is great, the interface is just badly in need of an update, so it would be nice if you would consider doing this soon. It would be nice to try a recipe, rather than try to search by just ingredient.

I thought with over 800 recipes that it would contain all the recipes from his books. I have the book "the mcdougall program for women" from the library and wanted to keep some recipes, which lead me to here. The recipes I wanted from the book are not here. Searched by name and tried by ingredient. So Im very disappointed. Spent the $5 and I still have to copy the recipes down.

I contacted app support and reset my IOS 8.1 phone. Then the miscellaneous app appeared. You must choose a category for recipe ideas before you list ingredients that you have for a recipe idea. The original recipes I thought I lost are there. App support was very patient with this grouchy customer that thought she lost some favored recipes. I suggest others unhappy with the upgrade contact app support for help. Thank you Irene in app support for your patience and help!! Thank you! It is fabulous how they have taken all the McDougal information and put it all in one place. Now I can erase all my screen shot saves of different McDougal web sites. Awesome job!! I highly recommend you upgrade your app to this latest version!!

Previous version, navigation was inexplicably ridiculous. Its not 100%, but far better.

Just upgraded to 2.0 and it looks a lot better than the old version. It is easier to search, and it is nice to have my McDougall recipes in one place. There may be a few bugs to work out, like some titles do not match up to their recipe, but I am sure that will be fixed.

Love the interface and usability. However, the search request populates little to nothing. The only way to find a recipe is browsing, which is an improvement from the last version...but I liked to search for specific ingredients too.

The recipe database looks pretty darn large. Recipes dont always line up with their titles though. You can pick "banana pancakes" and get ingredients and a recipe for some kind of oatmeal.

Tapping on a given recipe may not give you the expected result. Sometimes the intro text for a recipe doesnt load at all. Images are very slow to load. I like being able to tap items to a list and the recipes are right up my alley. But thar be bugs, ahoy!

Big fan of Dr. McDougall, but there are many of the same recipes linked to different recipe titles (e.g. Peanut Tofu Sauce). The 6/23/15 update doesnt seem to have addressed the previous issues...

I love this app except you cannot add your own items to the shopping list that I can figure out. Id give it a higher rating if they fix that issue.
